One of the things that I love about Edmonton is that if you look for them, you can find so many neat places that you never knew existed. How many times have I been to brunch or a dinner date at the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald in downtown Edmonton and never knew just a few steps away was their amazing Health Club? The concept is versatile, not only is it a great place to meet your fitness goals, it combines the convenience of a luxury spa into the experience.

For the last month I have been taking advantage of membership and sampling the different features offered and had to share it with you guys! It’s a place I would have thought would be for the hotel guests only but I didn’t realize that they offer monthly and yearly memberships for locals to take advantage of as well.

From the moment we stepped inside, I knew this would be unlike most typical gym experiences. I instantly felt the serene ambiance of the space with the gentle music, the fresh fruit and infused water, and the offerings of a soft robe and sandals.

Our first emprise brought us into the gym space. Here, they have a world class two-tier fitness centre complete with all machines including treadmills, ellipticals, weight resistance machine and bikes on the main level. They have left no detail overlooked, down to the eucalyptus soaked cold towels kept in the bar fridge, the most refreshing way to cool down after breaking a sweat. This overlooks the second level which includes a weight room and squash court. I have never played before and the staff was more than happy to run down the rules of the game with us and get us going. So fun!

Each visit that after a workout, I would get ready for the spa side of the club-featuring a nice dip in the salt-water pool. This area was so peaceful, it was easy to take a nap in one of the poolside loungers or enjoy a refreshing drink. The most relaxing swim, followed by a warm up in the hot tub. Once or twice I got adventurous and went out into the private sundeck. It’s a nice patio area just outside privately surrounded with trees and flowers. If you’re brave and have a robe on hand, you can climb the steps for a walk around the grounds of the hotel. It’s beautifully landscaped and offers scenic views of the river valley.

Back inside, the area is finished off with a spacious sauna and a eucalyptus infused steam room.

Looking for more? Spa treatments and massages are also offered here. They have some great packages and I was able to enjoy a one hour therapeutic massage during one visit. You can see a full list of everything offered at the health club here. And on your way out, grab a cup of hot coffee or tea and head back into the world…

Now if that sounds as amazing as it truly is to you, then I have awesome news to share! Fairmont is graciously offering my readers to chance to win: A 3 Month Single Executive Membership + Sunday Brunch for Two ($450 value)!
