Hello my loves! I am super looking forward to attending the 88th Canadian Derby happening this Saturday, August 19th at Northlands Park here in Edmonton. This event is almost as much about the fun in fashion as much as it is about the horse racing, so naturally its going to be a beautiful event!

I’ve put together a Derby-appropriate look to help guide your outfit choices if you are attending as well. The history of the event is one of fine fashions, dainty etiquette and large extravagant headwear.

I love the sleek appearance that can be achieved with not-so-ordinary black and white looks. This dress I’ve featured before on the blog here and is really a stunning favourite. I’m always happy to have a chance to re-wear it! Not only does it have a stand out contrast hem, this dress has pockets too, major bonus!

I chose my favourite black pumps from Shoedazzle, they are such a staple pair and go with everything!

I also wore these lovely black lace gloves that I got for under $10 at Claire’s. The quality is well enough since I won’t be wearing everyday and honestly they exceeded my expectations. I love the idea of wearing shiny delicate rings over the gloves like my bunny ring from Wear Felicity.

A showstopper headpiece, whether a large brimmed hat or a detailed fascinator is always welcome at derby events. I picked mine up for around $40.00 at Chapel Hats in West Edmonton Mall.

More guidelines for appropriate attire:

  1. Pastel colours with bold accents in coordinating colours: think mint green with deep plum clutch, hat, gloves and jewelry or perhaps powder blue with all white accessories.
  2. Knee length tea dresses are well-suited, no mini skirts here!
  3. Think high-class society style, no boho or trendy looks.

Hope you’ve all enjoyed my look and please I would love to hear feedback in the comment section <3 Hope to see you all at the races!

Lindsey xoxo
